Welcome
Alexandria Public Schools students from six elementary schools unite as sixth graders at DMS where student growth is valued, and staff members are committed to helping students follow their interests to develop their passions.
From Our Community
We love the friendly teachers and the wide variety of activities, especially Orchestra, Knowledge Bowl and Stormy Strings. We also really appreciate the coaches (swimming, soccer, track and others.) Our kids enjoy going to school here. Our littlest loves maker space and our older kids loved the Quest program, advanced math and all the dress up days!

I love the unique frameworks and the opportunities for activities, there truly seems to be something for everyone. It is big enough to be afforded these opportunities but small enough to know one another. My daughter just started at Discovery but prior to that we open enrolled her at Miltona. I cannot say enough good things about our Magnet school, they connect with kids on another level. I chaperoned the Wolf Ridge trip and it's an experience I will never forget, so beautiful and educational! So far we have had a good experience with Discovery as well and look forward to our time to come.stacy denny, dms parent
As a family we’re searching for the right middle school experience for our oldest daughter. I wanted to check out options in our area, Discovery was on our list. I wanted to see a day at Discovery Middle School in action as being a 6th grader myself. Heather Timm and Sara Kosters put it into action and they pulled a 6th grade schedule together for me. I was able to see students in class, passing time, lunch, and interaction with teachers to students. My experience was extremely positive, caring environment, appropriate technology use, honest answers to my questions, and kind 6th grade kids filling the halls of Discovery Middle School. We are proud to be apart of District 206! laura nelson, dms parent
I love that our kids have a wide range of classes, activities and opportunities to get involved in, while at the same time our schools provide the intimacy of small class sizes and individualized attention.Hans dahl, dms & aahs parent
Our families appreciation of Alexandria Public Schools is due to many factors. Some of those factors include accessibility, diversity of students and staff, opportunities for extracurricular activities, the support and sense of community, transparency, and free access to education.DENISE MILLS, DMS & AAHS PARENT
What makes our school special is that our school administrators prioritize communication and transparency with district families. They are focused on listening to parents and students when challenges arise and are flexible and willing to learn, grow, and make appropriate changes if needed.
