Discovery Middle School is responsive to the academic and social-emotional learning needs of young adolescents, serving students in grades 6-8.  Discovery Staff invests in the development of student leaders, innovators and inquisitive thinkers who value, strengthen and care for one another as a learning community.  Within this learning community, families are welcomed and openly invited to partner in the middle school journey.

Aligning to Alexandria Public Schools’ Portrait of a Graduate vision, teachers design engaging lessons beyond content mastery, providing relevant learning for students to: think critically and creatively; actively communicate; collaborate; and become civically and globally engaged.  At each grade level, courses include English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education, Health, and Fine Arts options.  A variety of elective and rotational courses are also offered, enabling student exploration and inquiry.  Discovery Middle School seeks community partnership, providing civic engagement and real-world learning opportunities, empowering students to discover their interests and passions. 

Beyond the school day, extracurricular programming offers student experiences in fine arts, athletic, academic, and/or club-based activities.
